Top ‘Real Guy’ Moments

In a recent article caught my attention from the ABC New. This article shows the political campaign members doing different things that make them look tough.  In one of the “real guy” moments President Obama’s bus tour makes a stop at a local sports bar for a quick beer and some college football. By doing this Obama is showing how he is a regular guy and mainly for drinking a beer. Other moments that are shown in the article Vice President Biden traveled to Shanksville, Pa. for a memorial of the passengers and crew of United Airlines Flight 93 this week. There Biden gave a moving tribute to victims of the September 11 attacks and then had a "real guy" moment by telling firefighters from Shanksville that he would have them down to Washington.  Another, “real guy” moment was GOP Presidential Nominee Mitt Romney headed to the heart of NASCAR country, Richmond, Va. for a campaign stop. Romney handed out a treat of hot dogs during his pit stop at the Federated Auto Parts 400 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Richmond International Raceway. The real guy article shows how everyone who is apart of the election are portraying a real image that can relate to other men in America. This is a tactic that benefits both political parties because they are showing Americans that they have what, and are tough enough to be the U.S. President.

Blithe Riley

Blithe Riley is an artist working to find out how systems of repetition regulate human behavior. Blithe, also tries to investigate dynamics between autonomy and control in aspects of daily life. Blithe recently visited the University of Kentucky to share with us two protest movements that she is apart of. One movement is the Occupy Wall Street. This movement was developed because many art and cultural museums are currently run by and for the 1% and ignoring the 99% that’s suffering. One example Blithe brings to our attention is occupying 477 located at 477 W. This historical landmark is a low-income housing, a place of self-determination and self-organization for all oppressed people. Occupies main goal is to fight anyone who tries to gentrify the building.  One image that received a lot of attention is a replica of the 477 home on the steps of the Museum of American Finance, with another image of the Queen mother who currently lives in the home. In the end, occupy eventually written letters and donated the replica to the American finance museum.
Arts and Labor is dedicated to exposing and rectifying economic inequalities and exploitative working conditions in fighting for fair labor practices Arts & Labor goal is to achieve parity for every member of the 99%.

The Republican National Convention

The republican national convention was held in Tampa Florida this year and has been broadcast pretty much everywhere. On the republican national convention website it says that the convention has launched a customized YouTube page. I find that interesting because in the past poitical parties didnt have an acess to online media. The website also says that the YouTub page will consist of social conversations, social data, infographics, photo and video to help inform people of convention activites.
Another acess to keep up with the convention is Flickr. When I was looking through the photos on flickr I thought it was intresting how it would show you how the entire convention is being built. Not only that but it shows you photos through other people eyes that are at the convention and the support they were getting from Tampa. One image that caught my attention is the one that that had ronald reagan and his wife on the projector screen with another republican and his wife. I though it was interesting because around the time of the reagan election that when technologhy was starting to develop. So, it was almost remind people about how technology expanded.
